boys clothing

the pants cuff thread reminded me that i'd really prefer sewing the boy some jeans... but where to get the pattern? do i havee to disassemble a pair & draft my own, or does someone make real patterns for boys (that aren't pull ons or like sweats). i have some Burda shirts for him, but haven't looked at their pattern book lately. i get a bit discouraged after 15 pages of girly stuff... lee

I know what you mean - a bit of choice in boys' styles would be much appreciated. Not necessarily fancy stuff, but more variation on useful garments.

there are some pretty decent patterns for cargo pants - not sure if you are interested in them or not. They aren't BUrda...I htink the ones that I use are McCall's...great for cargo pants OR sweatpants...which reminds me I need to get cracking now that the weather is getting cooler (DS picked out navy fleece and camo. fleece...yes, I let my kiddos pick out their own fabrics...for the most part).

Give me until this afternoon and I will have some pattern numbers for you!

Dear Enigma,

You don't have to take apart the pants--just pin draft them. You put a large piece of paper beneath the pants, and flatten each section, then prick through the pants to the paper. Keep moving the pants around to get each piece flat, and you'll end up with a decent replica. Add seam allowances, then make a muslin to make sure that the pieces fit together. Good Luck!!!

How about the Kwik-Sew for children book? Or the one by Martsden, I forget the title of it since it has been sent to a niece, now that I am finished with it. She has two precious boys and a little princess as well and loves sewing for them. Emily

That is a cargopant pattern. It has 25 sizes in it. From little little boys to grownmen. (that's what I really like about their patterns.) I've not sewn oneup yet, but I have a couple (jeans and something else....can't rememberwhat) aging in stash. ;)Sharon

Lee, SOrry I didn't ge tthe patterns up that I've used with Tomtom. I'll try to get to them today. Things have been a little crazy with DH out of town for most of the week, then coming home and the kiddos going bonkers, trying to learn about a software program that is completely new to me and be able to make it make sense to my non-computer brain....if I get a chance to attack the pattern boxes today I will post them for you.

3000 square foot house. i *hate* shopping, except for books lee

OK, here are the patterns i use for DS's sweats and cargo pants: McCalls 3416 Butterick 5286 McCalls 9206

The first one is the one for the cargo pants. I have used the other patterns for the "annual flannel Christmas pants" for the entire family as well.
