Bra-making stuff

Hey Gang,

Check out the colored plush elastics at this web site! I am *so* geared up to make my own bras in great colors!!!

And lo and behold, I found this website of the Canada Association of Professional Bramakers. Their list of professionals has one near where I live (in the San Francisco area)! Holy @#$%^@!!

That should probably say "bra-making people."

I think I will stick with

rather than pay someone a fortune to make me a bra, which is not that hard to make for myself.

Melinda, your negative attitude never ceases to amaze me!

No no, I am still going to make my own. I was just glad to find a local professional so I can perfect the fit. I'm no good at the little details of alterations. I've found a bra with a cup shape and seaming that I like. (Could be even better, hence the excitement of finding an expert.) Brenda Solanki at sewfittingdesigns.com estimated $60 to make a pattern from it without taking it apart. Plus shipping, that's more than the price of another bra. I'm casting about ("want it now" on Ebay) for a cheap one so I can do it myself. If nobody responds I'll have to dissect a new one and hope there's still enough seam allowances left to sew it back together.

[I'm embarassed that I haven't made enough progress on my bra of Frankenstein. I have been on a strict weight loss program since January but got sick for 3 weeks and couldn't exercize. I was supposed to be done by now but will now finish next week. (28 pounds gone; just half a size more to go!) Then the real experimenting starts. In the meantime I'll be ordering the bramakers manual.]

BTW, thanks for listening, Melinda. My husband is getting bored of bra and weight-loss talk...

That is a cool site. I have bookmarked it. Didn't look too closely but the prices seem really cheap. Am I right?

This is a discussion-only newsgroup.

Please take your ads to the marketplace group.

Since this is a repeat posting, perhaps you have not read the FAQs about the USENET community? Here are some links that deal with posting ads on newsgroups. Or, you could ask....

Dear me - they *were* discussing - making bras, weren't they? And they weren't advertising a site - they were making a reference to one they thought was a good find that others might like to also see.

I'm confused. I didn't see any advertising. I saw someone (who is

*not* new on the group, and has been participating in other discussions) posting links to potentially useful sites.

They were, and have been, discussing making their own bras -- where to find parts, where to find/how to draft patterns, etc. There were more than 2 or 3 people participating in the discussion.

If you *KNOW* that Pora has a financial interest in either LaceHeaven or the professional bra maker association that she linked to, perhaps you should tell us that.

Otherwise, you owe Pora an apology.

That wasn't an ad you silly, anal-retentive, control-freak twit. Had you bothered to read it or any of the OP's previous posts or if you had any semblance of grey matter in your pointy little head, you would know it wasn't an ad. She was merely posting the URLs of site's she found helpful so that others might also benefit. The only spammer here YOU.

Ah, I got it now. You are going to use them as a consultant.

And if you send a bra to Lee-Anne Burgess > No no, I am still going to make my own. I was just glad to find a

Actually, that wasn't terribly clear.

I don't remember seeing her here before (which doesn't mean that she hasn't been, only that I don't remember her.

However, OP has been posting here quite a lot looking for information on *making* bras, and bra-making *supplies/software*, IIRC. She simply shared a URL for an interesting site. So, not spam...

Okay, okay.

1) In retrospect, my first posting looked a little spammish. 2) I've posted in several discussions and originated one on PatternMaster Curves and bra-making. Parts of this new discussion assume that you've read that thread. 3) Thanks for rallying to my defense. Your support makes up for the lack of apology from IMS. 4) The reason I'm revved up about laceheaven.com is that their wide range of colors in plush elastics may enable me to make the bras I'm imagining: olive satin with deep rose lace/tulle/mesh; orange Chinese embroidered silk; apricot microfibre and raspberry sherbet stretch lace; something medium blue with chartreuse trim; leaf green pique with off white trims, etc. as well as more neutral colors. And yes, the prices look very good! In fact, I think I notice a brand-name imprint on one of the elastics, so these might be factory extras. I'm thinking of it as an outlet for some of those industry-only things we've been lamenting about...

I only occasionally visit this group, although it is subscribed in my newsreader ready for when I need to on my wife's behalf. I did not read the other thread, and only took a cursory glance at this one (because I'm a cheapskate and would like my wife one day to be able to make decent bras instead of paying $70 for rubbish Target ones)... Despite my mere partial interest - because I don't have breasts - I still recognised it was not spam/advertising.

The problem wasn't yourself, or past messages. So don't excuse them by offering that it sounded like spam. The problem here was, some people are control freaks who don't have a life. I see they haven't bothered to apologise, which reveals you have a better nature than them anyway. Don't apologise for it.

As someone in Australia who has little interest in the above because of what shipping would cost, I can still see and respect these things would interest many others - and it shows you recognised those things are not easily found in the one place. It would be selfish of me or anyone else to censor that information.

Again it proves - the problem wasn't you - it is someone who is more intent on being the thought police than a contributing member of the newsgroup, since they obviously didn't even READ the message before launching into their petty version of the Iraq war.

Thinking about it now, I read this happening in this group 3 out of 5 times I come here, actually. One wonders if it's the same person each time.

Allan.

I believe "Paranoid control freak" is the term you're looking for.

But Lee-Anne would cut it apart in the process. Better for me to deconstruct it carefully in the hopes that I can resew it.

Ya had ta ask, Karen... >sigh< With all these fancy colors and fabrics for bras, it does beg the question about what's going to happen with the lower half of the body. Please don't make me think about perfecting a panty pattern at the same time. Oh, Melinda is going to tell me it's as easy as pie, which is probably true for her. I'm warning you, I'm on the verge of whiiiiiinnnniiinnggg!!!!!!

BTW, thanks for the underoos image. You don't know how un-superheroic I feel.
