Bra straps and fittings

o.k....I know I usually try to save posts that I might need...but I misplaced everything to do with the "bra subject" and now I have a need for some "bra hardware" ie. straps, slide clasps. Anyone know where to go for these supplies? I need to be able to dye them bright green....so I did locate a source for clear ones but I think I need them out of white dyable plastic. Either that or I will try paint. Thanks, Joy in Michigan

Dear Joy,

Try Kieffer's or Sew Sassy, both should be online. And I think I remember Nancy's Notions carrying those supplies at one point. Kieffer's probably has the best selection.

Hi Teri, Do you order from Keiffer's online? I Googled "Keiffer's" and I think I was at their website and I think their "buttons" were not working. I saw that you can order a catalogue for $2. Is that what you do or what? Joy

Dear Joy,

I haven't ordered from Kieffers since I retired two years ago, but I think some of my students ordered online. The catalog is worth having, and the company has been around as long as we've had access to knits.

G'day Joy

If you can't get what you need locally, then Leeanne Burgess (Making Beautiful Bras Book) has all the supplies for bra making. I'd guess she would do international orders from Australia. I've bought strap elastic, hook/eyes, slides, power net etc etc from her.

We were in contact via email and she helped tremendously and I bought both her bra and swimsuit book along with the video. After watching the video I was so intrigued at the colours she had and found out later that she mostly uses Rit dye on white elasic/lace/powernet. Sometimes the metal hook/eyes will accept the dye too, but other times they might need to be painted with model car/airplane paint, because it comes in small quantities.

Leeanne's website is

Hope this helps? Bronwyn ;-)

I am not sure about that. When I ordered a cloned bra from her, she said she did not like to send so many supplies overseas because of the postage, or something like that.

But I'm with you all the way on how wonderful she is.

G'day Melinda

Sorry but I can't comment on that....my first thought is that postage is paid by the purchaser so it wouldn't be a concern, but maybe there was some other reason.
