Burda

This is a bit of a continuation of my last post on the fleece.

I also just noticed, Burda wants to use iron on interfacing. I don't think that will work. Both from the standpoint of melting the fleece and it seems like it won't have enough body to keep the tailored look of the pattern.

They also don't mention where/how to put in the batting(insulation). What's up with their thinking? At first thought I'll put it in like the lining. But I'm definitely going to make up a muslin on this one first to figure out all the angles.

Anyone have any ideas on what to use for the interfacing?

Thanks, AK in PA

I feel like a newbie asking all these questions.

I don't interface fleece. I may use piping or twill tape to stabilize an edge, but I don't use interfacing. Clear elastic is another possibility. Good fleece just doesn't seem to need it.

I prefer to use microchamois for set-in pockets and pocket linings and undersides of collars. About the thickness of flannel, same care characteristics and nice and cozy.

If I have to do regular buttonholes on fleece, my preferences are buttonholes worked through the fleece and a scrap of ultrasuede. Makes a nice design element, or you can trim the ultrasuede down to basically nothing when you're done.

I don't think I've ever put, say, thinsulate into a fleece jacket. If I felt it needed more warmth, I'd use 300 weight or a something like Windpro or Windbloc or PowerShield or I'd make a liner from another piece of fleece. Preferably removeable. (I'm one who's chronically cold... I still have my first jacket, of what is now called 200 wt fleece, which I used to wear over a cotton turtleneck until well into December in Iowa, and start wearing it again in about February.)

What's the pattern you're thinking of using? This sounds like one of those designed by folks who don't work with fleece much.

has a nice series oftips on working with fleece -- and she's a pro at it. Rochelle Harper(another pro) has a really cute corded edging made of stretched stripsof fleece:

think the two most comprehensive books on working with polarfleeceare probably Rochelle Harpers Sewing the New Fleece and Nancy Cornwell'sAdventures with Polarfleece. Both good... I happen to prefer Rochelle's,but Nancy's is very good also. Kay

Doreen, If your interested in that book you can get it used on amazon for about $1.60 plus $3.99 shipping. I just ordered it. I frequently order books Kay recommends and I'm never dissatisfied.

A big thank you, Juno, for the heads up! I had planned to look for the book at some time, but with your post I've decided there's no time like the present. Off to Amazon I go.

I *love* good sewing technique books, and frequently re-read the ones I have. Almost always I pick up information either unnoticed previously, or forgotten...sometimes just in time to use a pending project. Funny how that happens.

It's that magic genie voice in your head that says, I know I probably have that information in a book someplace, and then you go and put your finger on just the right chapter. Juno
