Buried Treasure Found!!!!!

Hey all,

Ok. So I called my ISP. They told me that I won't be able to post to the newsgroup for at least 2 days, because "the server is having problems." Well, that's vague enough I guess. So I'm posting through google. I love google. :)

SO ANYWHOOOOOO...... :)

A friend of mine just got hired by the high school as the drama coach. She helped with all the plays while her DD was in school. The D is in college now (where has the time gone?!?!?!?) The Vice Principal called and asked if my pal would be interested in doing what she'd been doing only for money this time. LOL So she took the job. One of the things she wanted to do ASAP was clean out the prop room. Guess what she found in there...... well, yeah, a $1,000,000 would have been nice, but no, that's not what she found. To us, she found something almost as nifty.

She found 2 boxes full of vintage patterns. Most from the 50's - early 70's. Well, she didn't have any use for them at the school..... So guess who she brought them to!!!! I'm so excited. One of the girls helping her asked if she could have some of them. So she got some, but I got enough to fill (and I mean totally fill) 4 Wal-Mart plastic bags! Talk about Fun Stuff!!! Children's clothing, women's clothing, even a few for men's suit coats and pants. PJ's. Swimming suits. Coats. All sorts of wonderful things!!

Some of them are uncut. Yeah, I was flabbergasted too. I'm going to have some serious fun with this stuff. :)

Had to share. Knew y'all would be excited with me. :)

Congratulations!! What a find. And how fortunate you are to know her! How fortunate that the patterns fell into the right hands! Have fun!

Oh, I LOOOOOOVE vintage patterns like that! I have hundreds! Used already or uncut, whatever the size, they are great for costume making! What a treasure trove indeed!

Thinking of giving away any to any, ahem, close friends you've never met, perchance?

Waah.

Have fun with them, seriously. Are you going to have to do masses of grading? Though I'm sure you can cope with that.

LOL!! If you need a Jacki O suit, you holler to me. :)

A lot of them I won't have to grade up. There are a few that I may have to cut down a little. Apparently, some of them came from a mail order subscription that someone had. There are several that are still in the mailing envelopes from the pattern companies. Those are all of a size that ought to be pretty close to what I need.

Mainly right now, I'm just looking at them and saying over and over, "this is so cool. This is so nifty." lol (My project list is not so long I have to store it on my hard drive like *ahem* some people. lol However, it is long enough it'll be a while before I get to play with these patterns in earnest. )

I have two McCall's metal pattern cabinets. (I bought them from Wal-Mart when they remodeled and got new cabinets.) These patterns fill **completely** one of the sections in one of the drawers. I don't think I could squeeze one more pattern in there if I tried.

Seriously though, if anyone has a costuming project or something and needs a pattern from that era, let me know. If I have a pattern you need, I'd be happy to share. :)

I DO need a Jackie O costume. It could go with my wellies and wood trolley! I would be the most stylish wood-lugger in the neighbourhood.

;) Trish (who occasionally laments the lack of opportunity to dress up in the boonies...)

Great news about the grading, though...

This reminds me of the Helmut Newton photograph in last week's New Yorker Magazine, of a female woodcutter wearing nothing but her boots! The Jackie O suit would be WAY more practical than that!

LOL Trish, I was wondering who that was.

The head of the woman is the only thing you CAN'T see in that photo!

I do that! Somehow, I just love the smell and feel of old patterns... Those I have from the 70's smell faintly of Joss sticks! I wonder why...
