Can this fabric be dyed?

I have a beautiful 2 yard piece of Waverly Aspen Dove chenille, a very light upholstery or drapery weight, no backing on it. It has a leaf design on it. I got it pretty cheap, however I wish it was a different color, it is a light camel color. Ideally I would like to dye it olive green, or at least a darker shade of taupe/tan. If I can't dye it I will use it as is. Fabric content is 49% rayon, 35% polyester and 16% cotton. What do you recommend as far as dye and procedure? Can it be made colorfast? I don't care if it shrinks some. Thanks, Judy

I've never had any luck dyeing anything that was or had polyester in it's composition. Poly just won't take dye as it's a synthetic fabric. Maybe someone else has a suggestion to offer.

The best site I know of for information on dyeing is dharmatrading.com:

think the answer to home-dyeing something containing polyester is "no".

I think I am just going to leave it as is. It is too nice to take a chance on screwing it up, even if I got it cheap.

Poly won't take home dyeing. However, the rayon and cotton will dye. Want a quick look at how it might dye up? Take a swatch and toss it in strong tea or coffee for a bit. Rinse well, and see if you could live with that dyeing pattern, whatever it might be. (no telling if the poly blended, or if it's the "base thread" or what, so trying a scrap can give you an idea. If you like what you get, give it a try with "real dye".
