canvas

My Swedish wife asked to do a search for 'canvas'. This is for a friend in Sweden.

I asked 'what for' and she said the person wants to sew on it, with it, to make designs and patterns thereon as well as hangings and table center cloths.

In other words, the question is vague; I'm not all sure that 'canvas' is what she wants.

So with that lead in, does anyone have suggestions?

[I just do stuff with my serger. My focus is on threading and then maybe getting to use it :-) ]

Sounds like what she actually wants is what we call calico here in the UK: a medium weight 100% cotton cloth in its natural condition, and usually referred to as 'muslin' in the USA. This sort of thing:

also do a bleached version... NAYY, just a very happy customer.

I'm making a wild guess here, that the friend wants "needlework canvas":

they come as pre-made kits, but you might try:

Canvas is a heavy, closely woven, plain-woven fabric, usually cotton, linen or hemp (but now often a poly-cotton blend) that used to be used for things like ship sails, duffel bags, and occasionally trousers. In lighter weights, in the US, it's called "duck". You also see it in cotton fabric tennis shoes, and things like canvas tote bags.

Or canvas is an openweave fabric used for certain kinds of needlework, such as needlepoint canvas or rug canvas.

My guess is that she wants something like the Merimekko fabrics of my childhood were printed on, which was a lightweight cotton duck. Or she's looking for another fabric entirely.

Any chance of a photo of the type of fabric she's looking for? Does she have a table cloth or runner like she'd like to make?

If you tell me what it is called in Swedish, I can probably find out what she is looking for. (I speak Norwegian).
