Catherine's own!

Gets an eleven out of ten! Beautiful, elegant, lovely, perfect fit, I was so impressed by her choice. Modest, yet sexy, wonderful use of lace, not fussy, just the right amount of train, and stunning veil. and Pipa's was gorgeous too, as well as the darling maids.

Well done, all you Brits!

G'night,... yawn...

Ah yes, we know how to put on a show! This is from one who moved to the other end of the world. Still, you can take the girl out of England but you can't take England out of the girl. It made me proud to be British. And grateful that this was one of the few foreign events that we could watch at a reasonable time of day!

And for anyone who has not seen it:

I sure hope this bodes well for a new trend in wedding gowns, putting the "I'm a tramp and I know it" gowns out of business, for a while at least.

There's been a couple of tv series on UK tv looking at Gipsy/Traveller weddings.

This episode was screened the day before the wedding.

The whole series has been at pains to point out just how carefully chaperoned the girls are, but I have great difficulty reconciling the claims with the style of clothing.......

Not available in our area. *sob* What good are these satellites beaming all around the world when they won't let us watch if we are "out of the viewing area"?

Thanks! Some dresses!! Our Romany population has pretty much assimilated here in the U.S. I've worked with Romanies in law enforcement, actually, they are pretty much spurned by their relatives for doing so. For a while, there were a fair number in the used car business, there not being a lot of call for horse-trading anymore.

*grin* But time marches on, and blood lines are diluted.

Here, they call themselves "Roma" and are still in the cash-only used car business:

It would seem so, if the series are to be believed. The cost of some of the weddings must be astronomical. There was a on-off special screened the day before THE wedding. It actually featured the dressmaker, Thelma, as much as the bride. Thelma did all the arranging, the dresses, the reception, the cake, everything! And all with just three weeks notice, or so the programme claimed.

The thing we just couldn't get our heads around, though, the girls are reportedly very closely chaperoned before marriage, virtually no contact with boys, but they dress like tramps, tarts. You honestly wouldn't believe some of the clothing shown on the tv series.

There's a dvd out on Amazon, but it looks like it's only Region 2 so it won't play in the USA, unless you can track down a region 1 copy over there. Trust me, it's worth a few bob for the entertainment value!

Which is what led to my asking if it was parody. I watched some of it, I was especially repelled by the "bride" with the huge fluffy dress which had a very convenient gap in the entire skirt front. And her "dance' didn't exactly shout "I'm pure and virginal!"
