Cheap pattern sales - still happen?

I don't get to visit this group often, but one time I did a while ago, I saw a post that patterns were selling for $1 (I think). Is this a regular occurrence, and which store is it usually so I can keep an eye out?

(Yes, I'm in Australia but that doesn't matter - I know someone in GA USA.)

Those who sign up for the sales papers from Joann's and Hancock Fabrics get coupons, or notices of when different patterns are on sale. Sometimes it's Simplicity, other weeks it might be McCall's, or Butterick or Vogue. We don't know the dates until we get the sales papers. Also, you can sign up for online coupons from Joann's. If all US Joann & Hancock stores operate using the same dates for their sales (and they may not):

JoAnn Fabric stores have Simplicity patterns (limit 10) for $1.99 each April 13-15.

Hancock stores (also in the US) will have "in stock" Simplicity @ $1.99 each April 2 - April 8 and Butterick @ $1.99 each April 9 - April 15. "In stock" means that they won't order patterns they don't already have in the store. For Preferred customers (it's just a card... NOT a credit card... they give you for free), McCall patterns are 99? each April 6 - April 8. Hancocks will also have McCall and Butterick on sale for 99? each April 20-22. Hancock mentioned no limit in the ad but I'm betting they have one.

So check with your friend in Georgia and see what you can work out.

I am in Canada and I just got a phone call today from Fabricland, they are having cheap simplicity patterns this weekend (as well as 40-70% off all fabrics! Too bad I switched shifts at work and have to work through the sale instead of go shopping. )

Hancock Fabrics also has an email advertising program that I like. Their pattern sales are always advertised in there.

I was curious, did Hancock's post which stores it was closing? I think they're closing soon... Didn't find anything on their web page...

Although it's very sad to hear this, I can't say I'm surprised to hear that some Hancocks' stores are closing. The quality of their fabrics has degenerated so badly over the last few years, as to be almost unusable. I've watched this process in our local store with great dismay, as they are the closest fabric store to where I live. At the same time, they've given more store square footage over to home dec stuff.
