Christmas dresses

am hoping that takes you to my sewing and such folder....if it does, look at the last 3 pictures. They need ironing, but that will come after I do the vests for the guys. My MIL said she does NOT like our themed pictures, but prefers formal ones.....this Christmas we are doing formal just for her. Don't expect to see it again in the near future. Larisa

Lovely! So formal is the theme for this year, and MIL will just have to enjoy it, and look forward to next year's different theme.

Can you use a faux fur collar? I bought a sweater that was perfect >

According to DH, this is something we won't have to worry about. He made the comment that both children always look gorgeous in whatever they happen to wear for the day. WIthout missing a beat, DS replied, "That's because Mom buys or makes our clothes for us!" LOL gotta love him (he got an extra snack that night). I am pretty good at picking clothing for others, but for myself, well...today I'm slumming in sweats and a super-large tshirt. I can dress myself for different occassions, but prefer to be comfortable. I just don't want people to look at my children and wonder if they even have parents . Now if I could just get DD to brush her hair and leave it alone....

Thanks Liz. I think we are going to just do the dresses, and maybe have hair styled similarly (mine is cut to allow all the natural curls to explode, so it will probably be pulled back). DOn't want to make any changes....I can't stand FORMAL pictures...reminds me of prom...blech

MIL likes the first Christmas with each child - DH in ivory sweater, me in green sweater, DS in red, DD was in a little green dress that was HUGE on her (she was only 17 days old when we had her first Christmas picture done..and they did a B/W of her *IN* a santa hat...yep, that's how tiny she was!). Problem is that, after careful review, we discovered that DH and I were wearing the EXACT same clothing in each picture!!! ANd to top that, we had the EXACT same background!!!

Thank you Sharon. Yes, it is one of the more vibrant colors on me....works well with auburn/dark brown hair, blue eyes, ivory/peaches and cream complexion...lol. DD is stil a blonde, but we are waiting to see if her hair changes like her brothers did

Reminded me of email I got from DDIL a while back: "Tomorrow my little girl is 5. Hard to believe. She got her first hair cut today. Shampoo, cut and style. (Basically looks the same, just trimmed a little.) Then she proceeded to dunk her head in rainwater outside right before her dad was ready to leave with her to kuk sul wan (martial arts school). That's my girl."

Beautiful dresses! You outdid yourself this time. I love simple, elegant styles much better than the "fancy-wancy" style many parent think young girls must have. If the truth be known, most little girls don't like wearing them, at least, that's the consensus from my 3 DDs and 3DGDs.. . These should definitely will make MIL happy. Larisa, I hadn't looked at your site in a while, so today I took a long look. Your DD is gorgeous, and is growing so quickly as all children do. I love the little jumper that she chose the fabric, too. Emily

If it's so disturbing to her, maybe you should skip the pix one year......

Your comment was the hit of the living room! I was reading the various comments to DH and he thought yours took the cake. He said that we should definitely consider not having a picture done one year....or at least not sending one to her. Said, that would fix her wagon...lol.

Thanks for the chuckle,

Larisa

Seconded! The _recipient_ is *not* in a position to make demands, IMHO. "Suggestions", maybe, but telling you "...she does NOT like [y]our themed pictures, but prefers formal ones..." is just beyond the pale!

Beverly, who adores the pics of the grandchildren each year...

I think your dresses look lovely!

But it does seem a bit rude of MIL to dictate what to wear.

I saw your ones from 2004, they looked fantastic. If that is one of your themed ones then I suggest you keep going with those.

Larissa,

We try to do different each year. Last year was turtlenecks because I didn't get the outfits done in time. The Ren. garb was 2004 and was my choice for theme. We have also done 2 traditional pictures (the ones I think I mentioned - sweaters, etc.), Hawai'ian shirts (not favorite..DH and I both had our hair dyed and it just didn't look right) and pajamas/bathrobes (DSs choice). We have ideas for future ones. The Civil War one has been brewing for a few years, but they didn't have patterns for DD until now (she's a little tiny thing!). We have also bounced around super heroes, disney, pirates, villians, occupations, etc. We are far from boring when it comes to family pictures :-).

Larisa P.S. This is the only time MIL has actually been rude...the only time she has ticked me off in the 9 years that DH and I have been married. Because of that, I am willing to cut her a little leeway. However, if I hear another comment about how she doesn't like our pictures, she won't get anymore from us and can just see them at the brothers' houses....serves her right as far as I am concerned. Kind of like saying you don't like a gift and can you have another instead...sheesh

Thank you. That was my reaction as well. I thought the themed pix were wonderful.

My mom didn't like that I allowed my son to wear his mowhawk (a style he'd sported continuously for the past 3 years) for their Christmas card photo - the theme was "Cowgirls and Indians". My daughter sported full western regalia and tack on her sorrel gelding, my son wore a fringed buckskin jacket, his dark hair was freshly buzzed and spiked, and he was seated bareback on the pretty paint mare. Both kids were grinning ear-to-ear - a major improvment on their "picture smiles", which always look to me like they've just sat down on something pointy.

Although my response to my mother was somewhat more tactfully phrased, it boiled down to a suggestion that she go pound sand.
