Christmas letdown :(

Had a wonderful Christmas here! We had great family get togethers, good food, and probably one of the happiest, relaxed times. We didn't spend alot on Christmas and we seemed to enjoy it more.

But the week preceding Christmas was a flurry of sewing!! And I had a blast! Made 5 stockings for my family, 2 heirloom family history albums for my sisters, 5 pairs of pajama pants, several embroidered Christmas cards, and a dog bed for our stray, orphan dog.

Do you guys feel kinda down now that all the sewing is finished? I mean, there's plenty of projects waiting for me, but they're not urgent. Seems alot more fun when I'm pushing a deadline. Am I crazy or does anyone else feel this way?

No, you aren't crazy. It is normal to feel a little let-down after a short span of intensive activity, regardless of what it is. I think it helps if you do a little project that you can finish, but don't really need to. DO you understand what I'm saying??

Like for me, after a tree-skirt (quilted), 4 new stockings, 11 pairs of flannel pants, 2 pairs of pajamas, and various mending projects, I was ready to throw in the towel. But then DS got to be a sheep in the church pageant and needed white pants. However, Mother called as I was pinning out the fabric and said she had bought him 2 pairs (I told her of the need and she was lucky enough to find some fairly cheap). So, though I didn't need to do it, I did. The difference was that I was able to do it leisurely instead of fushing to get it finished at the last minute. I suppose it sort of eased me out of the sewing frenzy and prepared me for the casual sewing that is still waiting for me (12 pairs of pants for DS because he is tall and skinny).

I have 20 bazillion other projects in mind, so I'd have to say no. I know the feeling though!

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling a little down now that the adrenalin rush of last-minute sewing is over.

The only complaint I had from DH was when he sent an Ebay payment for a large package of NEB bobbins for me for Xmas. When the package arrived he exclaimed, "And I paid $25 for THAT?"

That's the only negative complaint I've ever heard from him, despite the MOUNDS of fabric, the $3500 he chunked down for my embroidery machine, the thread tangles on the floor, and the stockpile of patterns spilling over in my sewing room.

He is fully supportive of my sewing sickness and often comes downstairs with his dobro and serendades me whilst I sew. And he doesn't usually play pure bluegrass...he plays 70's rock with a bluegrass twist...like Pink Floyd or Rush. He'll stop playing for a moment, watch my embroidery machine work its magic, ask, "watcha makin?" then go back to playing. It's an everyday thing. No need for a radio in THIS sewing room!

And wouldn't you know, I've got bags and bags of projects to sew with fabric, pattern, notions, etc in each bag, and then stacked up in my sewing room...clothes, dolls, handbags, you name it.

What do I do?? Go to JoAnn's and buy MORE fabric to make a quilt, cut it out, and started sewing it!

The goal is a quilt for each sister, a niece, and my stepmother for Christmas NEXT year. Talkin' 'bout a deadline!
