Christmas sewing

Just thought I'd check and see how everyone else is doing with their Christmas sewing; hoping that I'm not the only one who is a little behind with projects.

I'm hoping that, since Mother is coming for a brief visit (supposedly to watch the kids so that DH and I can go out for dinner), I will be able to make more progress the rest of this week. Saturday is pretty much a wash as we will be hunting up the tree and getting decorations up and about the house, so it will all hinge on tonight and tomorrow.

Only thing left is the *finishing* of projects, but I can't seem to get motivated....

So, to everyone else trying to get things finished...not to worry you, but you only have 16 days left to get everything finished!!

I'm behind because I had a couple of emergency repairs - horse blankets that were damaged, and a cold snap coming on. And then my daughter noticed that the oldest horse at the barn, 35 year old Misty, was not wearing her coat. Misty doesn't really belong to anybody. She came with the barn when the present owners bought the place, and they take care of her in a general sort of way. Elaine found her coat hanging over the stall door, ripped in a half dozen places. So I'm patching Misty's coat because if I don't, probably nobody will and she'll wind up doing without. It probably ought to be replaced but just now I'm long on time and short on cash, so under the needle it goes.

It is nasty work, too. The coat is dirty and smelly, but if I try to wash it in its current condition it *will* shred. Blech.

Time to quit procrastinating and get to it.

Good of you to do that for old Misty.......she is too old to be standing around in the weather with no coat...........She (and I) appreciate your efforts.....

No you're not the only one :) I'm frantically trying to finish up some stuff to mail, and then onto the other projects that are almost done!

How cold is it there? I am sitting here imagining your poor old misty in the bitter saskatchewan cold without a coat.

Yesterday the high temp was 18 degrees F (about minus 7 C). We got 3 inches of dry snow. It is bitter, bitter cold. Misty's blanket is done. I used some 1000 denier cordura left from a previous project to patch the outer shell of her coat, and 300 weight polartec to mend the lining. I also replaced a couple of straps and buckles (it's so nice to have a well-stocked sewing room).

I'm taking it out to the barn this afternoon. The stable owners claim she's fine without it, and this may even be true. She's got a coat of thick curly fur on her like a wooley mammoth. But I can't bear the thought of her doing without, especially when I see that their personal horses are all wearing coats.

I'm also taking along a neck gaiter for Bobby, the 14 year-old stable hand. Last time we were out there the kid's face was so frozen that we couldn't understand half of what he was saying.

It is so caring of you to do that for misty and for the stable kid! As for -7c being bitter cold.......may I laugh? That is shorts and tank top weather! Well, almost! Its about that here today and most people are not wearing their jackets! Not to say its always cold here, but it gets to minus 40 in the winter for a while, then in the summer it has reached plus

40, but plus 20 is normal. I can't stand the extremes, but will quit complaining about now because if I truly didn't like it I would move!

Hopefully Misty stays warm!
