Clothes for GD

I am late getting started sewing summer clothes for my only GD but am still having problems with my left arm after a fall a couple months ago. I am going to therapy twice a week and it helps a lot. I don't see her every week, but she was up to see me yesterday and tried on the bright blue shorts I had almost finished and they were tight, so I unsewed the sides and inserted a 2" stripe on each side. Now I just need to put elastic in the waist and hem them. I want to use the same simple pattern and make 3 or 4 more pair before her birthday on July 3rd. Now to go through my stash and pick out colorful cloth I think she will like. I have some kaki that I could use the embroidery stitches on the SM to jazz up one pair of shorts! But first I want to check out my stash. Wish me luck in locating something an 11 year old will like! Barbara in SC

Red is so pretty on kaki. If the 'insert 2 inches' on the sides worked well, why don't you do some wild and crazy red embroidery on a 2 inch panel when you make the kaki shorts. ( I don't think we're spelling kaki right but don't think we care.) Anyhow, I once had a kaki suit that had red top stitching and wore a red silk shirt with it. It was an 'always looks nice' combination. IF you can find some very light-weight denim - or better yet, go to the Thrift shop and find some big and thoroughly worn jeans, you could make some cool shorts. Or is the word 'hot'? I think I'll go have another cup of coffee. Join me? Polly

Hummm, the dictionary said that kaki is a Japanese persimmon tree. That would also be a pretty color down the side of the pants. Since I haven't cut them yet I think I will just cut them bigger and save myself some trouble and sewing time. Thanks for the hint! Barbara in wet SC Oh, I'll take my coffee black, and thanks!
