Computer woes affecting sewing!

GRR! I think the heat has been getting to the computer as well as my brain!

For the last week it has developed a habit of switching itself off and randomly rebooting for no apparent reason. Very annoying in the middle of constructing an estimate for a customer, preparing their final account, or looking up resources and fabrics on the www. thingy... Hmm... Thinks: it's dead hot here, and it's over a year since we last took the case off the beast and hoovered it out. Since then we've had building work and all sorts. Maybe time for a clean-out!

So on Saturday DH took the beast out of its shell, and dysoned it clean! Half a machine full of dust and fluff! ikk! He took out the CDRom drive, the floppy drive, several boards, and various other components, took the lids off them and cleaned out their innards, even to the point of dismembering the PSU! This caused consternation with our computer gurus (she squawked and flapped like a headless chook for 30 seconds, I could hear him gibbering in the background! But it had been off all night, so there was no residual power left, and DH Alan started his career as a hardware nut), but the sewing machine hoovering kit worked wonders, and the machine has worked well since... Except that it disappeared my Word program!

ARGH! AKK! GEEP! I can't do me customer admin without it! Luckily it

*would* fire up if clicked on an existing document, but I couldn't find it without. No icon on the desk top or tool bar, no listing in my Programmes - nada! AWOL Word! :( Alan has just spent an hour tracking it down (physically - he had to reinstall it from the original disks, which were buried in a cardboard box behind a door marked 'Beware of the Leopard').

Right! now I can do me admin again! Phew! So I can order the next lot of lovely silk from my present favourite silk emporium now that I can find the lass's estimate and see what has to be ordered! Ha!

Bugger! Alan has gone into town for a blood test for the rheumatologist (vampire had a mile long queue this morning) and I gave him the shopping list but forgot to as him to pay my last customer cheque into the bank for me! Oh, Pooh! Means there will be a slight delay in ordering the Bernina serger.

Glad to hear you finally got it working again. It's amazing how much we rely on these beasts and are quite lost when they decide that they've had enough!

Is "dysoned" now part of the English language? Is it up there with hoovered? If I use hoover here in Sydney I get blank looks. To me it's the bleeding obvious but apparently not to all.

Indeed! They make life so much easier in so many ways, but they come with their own set of foibles and hazards! God help me if I had to do all my fabric research by paper and telephone!

It is for me! It's like hoovering but louder and more intense! I went from an ordinary cylinder vacuum cleaner (a Miele - so a good one!) to the upright Dyson and never looked back. The only down side is that I'm reluctant to hoover after 9pm because of the noise! Not that either of our joined on neighbours would object...
