costume question

I am preparing for future projects and have run into a dilemma with my sons Renn Fest costume..........

the sleeves and hood are to be made out of metallic stretch knit, which I can probably deal with, however.........the belt and boots are supposed to be made out of tissue lame, which I hate with a passion.

Any suggestions on what I can possibly use in place of the lame??

Thanks bunches.....

Larisa

P.S. The costume he chose was Simplicity 5520, view C.....a knight's costume. Rebekah will be getting Simplicity 5517, view B, fabrics as of yet undecided. As for myself..if i have the time....I will be using McCall's patterns 4091, 4090, and 4107..fabrics also undecided.

Try for some metallic finish PVC mock leather: might be a bit hot, but easier to sew than tissue lame - which you are right to eschew if at all possible!

Thanks bunches Kate! I knew there would be a response from you on this ....and it is really for "spat"-type boots....they would go over his regular shoes, and just a belt, so it probably wouldn't be too hot for him.....going to be worn in Maryland in October, so with luck, the weather will be sunny and cool....but then again, my remembories of the MD Renn Fest in October may be skewed...haven't been there in several years.

Actually, if you fuse interfacing to the back of the tissue lame, it's no trouble at all.

(I had over 50 yards of the stuff leftover from the 1994 World Cup Opening Ceremonies - I was a Stage Manager there. You know that thing where they grab the bolt and run down the field unfurling it? Well they rolled it back up, and tossed it in the dumpster. I pulled it out of the dumpster and took it home with me on the bus. I think I finally managed to get rid of it all by 2001. It made lovely gift wrapping, window shade lining, bread-wrappers, a giant amoeba in a comedy show, a laundry bag....)

Larissa, If you iron on pusible interfacing to the back you shouldn't have any problems with it. I have made boot "spats" with tissue lame pictured at this link as "Star Wars on Ice".

AKK! Insanity confirmed! ;P

Mind you, you have to be dead careful fusing it, cos the bloody stuff can melt!

Wendy,

You're a doll! You and Kate were the ones I expected the first responses from.....I did some recon shopping today and got some ideas....wouldn't have thought of fusing interfacing to it for some reason....brain must be shutting down...need caffeine or something.
