Couldn't leave well enough alone

Damed me and my tinquering....

I think I am going to need the address for that fix-it message board.

but mean while here is what I did.

A couple of months ago I went and had my sewing machine fully tuned-up... after messing about with it for a couple of weeks. The nice , retiered, gentelman who fixed it told me never to play in it again.

I am rather proud of the fact that I held out for two months. :-)

After making my very first shirt, I noticed that the button holes weren't as regular as I would have expected ( the zig-zag on the left was longuer then the one on the right), So I gave the mather a some thought and decided that screw A ( just for futur reference ) needed just the tinniest little tweek. And it actualy worked perfectly. ( Hurray)

This was yesterday. then today, full of myself, I decided that I would measure the stitch lenght and adjust that too. ( I had read in my reference book that on machine such as mine with the stitch lenght 0-1-2-3-4 that meant 1 mm, 2mm, 3mm etc. ) So I got out my ruler and started fidling around with screw B.

Oops

Now I only played with the two screws ( on the inside of the machine obviously). And I guess if I played around with them I could probably get it back to where I had the machine yesterday ( near perfect). But that doesn't make much sence. I know enough about this type of thing to know that there is a sequence to adjusting, So I need to know that the hell said sequence is and what the bench marks are.

it this helps.

My machine is a 30 years old japanese badged machine sold in Canada under the name Omega Super 900.

It has a side loading bobin, no cames, 0 to 5 zigzag ( 0 being straight),

4step button hole ( 3 settings), extendable zigzag, hiden stitch, triple zz, 4 extendable(decorative) stitch, a triple ( or extendable) straight stitch, drop down feed dogs, and a reverse.

The stitch selector is a nob, the stitch lenght is also a nob and the reverse button is stet in the midle of the stitch lenght.

Screw A is attached to the reverse arm inside the machine ( I know this because the screw and the arm drop when I press the revers button). Screw B is set in the stich lenght control ass ( I know this because the screw moves back and fort when I play with sticht lenght).

I am not sure what else to tell you beside that , when adjusting the button hole i noticed that screw A didn't affect the reverse zz ( left side of the button hole) but the forward zz ( right side of the button hole).

PLEASE HELP ME , I swear I will never fiddle around in my machine again (for the next couple of month).

Jean,

Wish I could help, but all I can do is commiserate. I've done exactly the same thing. $75 later, the nice old man at the repair shop told my husband not to let me do it again. DH took the screwdriver and put it out in the garage, I've not seen the screwdriver again nor have I ever "adjusted" my machine again.

Good luck getting yours working again.
