couple projects

all,

Here's a couple of my latest projects. The red dress is for me. I was playing. ;) My dress form has developed a somewhat saucy lean there mid-torso. Thought I had that dealt with till after I took the pictures. Oh well. I like the fit of the dress, in fact I think it's a really fun dress. I didn't draft the whole pattern. I used a shirt pattern for the upper bodice. Then a skirt pattern for most of the skirt. Drafted the lower bodice/upper skirt portion and the godets. Was going to put godets on the sideseams also. However, they ended up less than flattering. So I took them out. DH doesn't like the two fabrics together. I think he will have to get over it. lol It's not a dressy dress. It's a throw that on with flip flops and head to the grocery kind of dress.

I have a couple other red fabrics that are closer to each other in scale. One looks like a much smaller version of the other. I'm thinking another of this dress in those. Himself will probably like that better. (but then we don't turn to him for fashion advice often. LOL)

The vest is a project I've been working on a while for my DBIL. Those are all of his mission patches from his career in the USAF. As well as a few commemorative type patches. (like the big one in the middle of the back.) I'm at a stand still on that one. There will be a belt at the bottom like a motorcycle jacket would have. However, he found one more patch. That's in the mail to me. I'm waiting on that to get here before I move on to the belt. That patch will go on the lower back. Easier to take the lining loose at the bottom before the belt goes on!! I did put a CB seam in the lining. That way if he wants to change the patches out on the back, he can and not sew through the lining.

He's a big guy. I used the handiest male model I had in some of the pictures. ;) The body its designed to fit is about twice or more the size of the model. But we have to make do sometimes. ;) You can see some things changed as it went along. I didn't like the original pockets, so I redid those. Moved patches around several times. (the pictures were for him to tell me yes or no on patch alignment. Handy this since he's in NM and I'm in AR!!) When I get it all done, I will post more pictures.

Now, off to finish some drapes for a pal!!

> Hey all,

I like the dress, so I think you're right he'll have to get over it. In fact I think it's pretty darn nice.It looks like it will be very comfortable for heading out to the store. It will also be great when you're hanging out in the yard with a couple of friends sharing a drink and dinner.I love the idea that you combined 2 patterns and came up with something that's your own creation. > Hey all,

That looks perfect for sewing for my older DD who has scoliosis, and a high-hip. ;-)

You'll turn heads. I think it's a striking dress. Tell DH he doesn't have to wear it. ;-þ

Very cool! I used a RTW jacket to sew my brother's Vietnam-era Navy Submariner patches on. He has almost worn out the jacket.

> Hey all,

I thnk it is absolutely gorgeous. I just wish I still had the figure to wear something like that. (of course, if I did, the sewing machine would never cool down.) Keep on enjoying i, your dh will get used to it (or not!!)
