Coverstitch machine thread question

Hi,

I have been trying to sew elastic on a Cotton Lycra fabric but the threads keep snapping and i wonder if this is down to me using the wrong kind of threads. Could you tell me what threads you would recommend i use in the top needles and which i should use in the bottom looper.

Thank you

I would think it more likely that the needle is the problem but I don't really know, this is just a guess.

Do all the threads snap or just one, or two? If all, you may have the machine improperly threaded. If just one or two you may need new needles, or you might have to completely re-thread being careful to follow the threading diagram for your machine.

Does your machine sew normally when you sew on plain fabric without elastic? If so, you may be pulling the elastic through the machine too fast (assuming you are "taut-sewing). If the threads break when you test without elastic, then you probably have a threading problem or a needle(s) problem.

Polyester on cones for the needles and wooly nylon for the looper.

Basic serger thread should work fine. Have you changed the needles recently?
