Coverstitch Machines

Whichever one suits your needs and wallet. No, I'm not being facetious. Most of the coverstitch machines out there (with the exception of Yamata, of which I've only heard words I try not to use) are pretty good. There are three needle coverstitchers, two needle coverstitchers, stitchers with various needle spacings, top coverstitch, bottom coverstitch, and combination machines. Only you know what you need/want.

Me, I've got a Bernina 009D coverstitch only machine, two needles. Does exactly what I want, which is reliable, basic coverstitch.

As Kay said, different people like different makes & models. If you ask 10 people what overlocker each owns and likes, you might get 10 different answers. I personally like my Pfaff 4872, although it is some 6-8 years old. It is a 5-thread with coverstitch hem. I have 2 cousins, who are sisters, one loves the Bernina and the other a Janome. I suggest you go online and check each machine's website, study what each does, then go to a dealer, taking some samples of fabric and try some you think might suit you. If they don't allow you to operate the machine, run, don't walk away and go to another one. Remember sewing machines/overlockers are like cars, no one model for everyone. Hope this helps. Emily

Well, just to add to your confusion I have a Janome 1000CP (3 needle) and love it! When upgrading my overlocker 3 years ago I decided to get a Janome Compulock which also does coverstitch, but soon found that I used the CS much more than anticipated and it turned out to be a pita swapping back and forth all the time, so then I bought a 'very' slightly used 1000CP. I've read that Janome have ceased making the 900CP (2 needle) although there are some still listed on ebay.com but the price hasn't been reduced. Personally I think the 1000CP gives so many more options for an extra Au$100 that it was worth the additional cost.
