Detachable French Cuffs?

Does anyone know where I can get a pattern to make detachable French cuffs? Or, at least how to make them? I want to have the option of wearing regular or French cuffs. TIA. Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

I have been thinking of detachable french cuffs as well. Have you been a success in finding the pattern?

TIA

Alex

Dear Alex and Cheryl,

You don't need a pattern for french cuffs. You can do your own. Here's how. Measure the wrist of the sleeve upon which you want to have the french cuff. That way, you'll know that it will fit nicely. Now, take a piece of paper towel and wrap it around your wrist. Draw around the bottom--it's not a straight line, so you need to do this. Then, draw the shape and size you want the cuff to be. Cut it out. Make sure that the wrist measures the same as the garment you're going to wear them with. Try it back on to make sure it's what you want, and that it fits the sleeve you intend to wear it with. Trace the result on a large piece of paper. Add seam allowances, except at the wrist--whatever seam allowance is comfortable for you. For the wrist, you need a piece that will fit up inside the sleeve to make it look like a shirt, and it should be faced. If this is the case, you'll need to put some kind of closure on the garment as well as the cuffs. Or, you can finish all sides of the cuff, leaving a small opening for turning. After you have trimmed and turned the cuff right side out, press it, and determine if you need more than one button. If you plan to wear cuff links, you'll need to put buttonholes on both ends of the cuff, making sure that they line up.
