Dog coat pattern info

I am looking for a **free** dog coat pattern. I have done a web search and the only ones I can find are knit or crochet. Any one know of a site where I can find a free dog coat pattern for making with fabric? OR can anyone recommend which brand pattern to buy. Thanks :-)) Sun

You could always drape it right on the dog.

Hah. That works out okay if you're dealing with adult dogs with reasonably calm dispositions. That's how I fitted my two border collies for their visibility vests. When I attempted the same thing with my Jack Russell puppy, after the first couple of times I picked him up and draped the pattern over him to try to get the contouring around his legs right, he started running away and hiding when he saw me looking around. It wasn't like I was sticking pins in him so I persisted, and after the fourth or fifth time the little brat came around under the table where I was sitting and peed on my foot. I did get my pattern done, though.

PS Lots of dogs are really bothered by rustley crackly noises. Using soft pattern paper or interfacing is less upsetting to the dog than draping with newspaper. Having a second person on hand to hold the dog still and feed him treats while you work makes everything go a lot faster.

Hi, have you seen this link? It is for a medium sized dog, I think, but the pattern is shown on gridded paper, and you could adjust it....

when ive made them, i make them similar (ok, identical!) to horse blankets, even making them out of denier and lining them with fleece. they work very well.....

Okay, well then how about making a duct tape double of him so he won't have to stand still for fittings?

Thanks one and all!! I do not have a dog so can not drape and pattern. It is for my 'granddog' Pablo a Welsh Corgi who just adores me when I go to visit my son. When I arrive if Pablo is outside he jumps into my car as soon as I open the door to get out!! I do not know if he will wear it but that is OK beccause he might just like to have it in his bed to snuggle with. I am going to check the link and get that pattern.

Thanks again everyone! Sun

LOL! This is the best one I have heard in days. I cant imagine standing still long enough to have one made of me, let alone getting a dog to stand still for 2-3 hours!

Oh lord, what a thought.

I have to admit, though, that I've considered making use of duct tape while trying to sew when the dogs are around. Scully, one of the BCs, has come perilously close to finding herself duct taped to the wall after the third or fourth time she flopped herself down on top of my foot operated speed controller.

Argh!!!!!!!!!!

I refrained, though. A local daycare operator found herself facing charges for a similar incident involving one of her young charges.

Have you seen the computer dog coat and dog suit pattern from Patternmaker? I beta tested this program and you measure dog in a few places, and use the very basic program to print it out. It wasn't very expensive. I'd have to go online to get you the exact web address, but the first page is

search for dog coat or just look for the link. If you can't find the link, let me know and I'll go look after hubby is off the line.
