Don't believe what you read

I was in Target tonight, looking for a large covered casserole to use with my to be built solar cooker.

I passed by the sewing machines just to check them out. Someone on one of the backpacking sites is looking for a low cost machine that won't disintegrate him, so I was just sort of keeping an eye out.

Don't remember the model, but it was a Singer low-end model, under $100. It had a sticker on it that said "heavy metal chassis". I went over to heft it, and I probably could have thrown it clear across the store were it not for wind resistance. Think feather.

I could tilt this machine with one finger, and NO effort. Seems I should have used my new word in here somewhere.

get a cast iron dutch oven. i love mine (although we don't really get much solar oven weather up here). i was told that one can't cook tomato based things in cast iron, but i've been doing it for decades. it doesn't "ruin" the cast iron & it doesn't make the finished stew or whatever taste funny either. then you'll be all set when you have this strange desire for beanhole baked beans ;)

encourage him to buy a good *used* machine. he'll be happier in the long run. and i don't think i've ever seen anyone disintegraded *by* a sewing machine ;) lee

I actually have one. The reason for the casserole thing is to set another dark colored put inside it, so that the heated air is held around the pot. The other option is to put the pot inside of a turkey roasting bag, but then you have too much of an ordeal to check the progress or add ingredients.

that should have said "disintegrate on him", or by him, or in front of him, or behind him.

I did mention getting a used one to him.

If turning into a raving lunatic counts as disintegrated, Windows programs do it all the time.

(Yes, I still write my novels with PC-Write.)

well, yes. one reason why i won't get one of those computerized sewing/embroidery machines. windoze just sucks.

cool. i use wordpad for making flyers & stuff. that is the extent of "office" software on my computer ;) i have Bead Designer 3 (just upgraded & need to play with the new features) and mostly games. i'm a huge sim game fan (not Sims. more like Pharoah & Civ IV, Railroad Tycoon, American Farmer, SimFarm...)

Beanhole? Anything to do with the other gassy thread going on.

I did end up getting a small cast iron dutch over, maybe 5" across, but it won't fit inside anything else I've got.

I traipsed (exactly how does one do that) over to the chinese supermarket near me and found a couple of sizes of clay casserole pots. One fits just right in the top of a tupperware thing I have, and another fits just right inside of a pyrex pot I have.

I tried testing it yesterday, but nothing painted black. It didn't do much. I'll try tomorrow again maybe.
