Downton Abbey!

Yes, it's here at last! DA on German TV, brought to you by ZDF over the holidays. DH is recording it on his computer for me since there is no opportunity to watch it until early January when DD is back to Kindergarten and I can watch telly in the mornings. And the receiver's hard drive is needed for the regular stuff that comes up over the festive season. Oh, I'm pining away, I must say, to finally set my eyes on this miracle of period drama. ;->

You will LOVE Maggie Smith! Poisonous old harridan FTW! ;)

She was wonderful as the rather impecunious old harridan in Gosford Park. But she's wonderful in whatever role she plays.

Gosford is another favourite... Maggie has been one of my icons since I first saw her in BBC Play of the Month production of The Merchant of Venice in 1972.

Oh yes, I love her, too, and she was also great in that Poirot movie. Gosh, was she really that young once? I always kind of liked her but it took me some time to realise it was always her; a good actress/actor blends so well with the role that you cannot tell its him or her at once. ;-) She was good with Ustinov in that movie where he steals the millions via computer, too. Oh, how I wish I could watch it - now. But tomorrow I'll take DD to the cinema for the first time, I think. I guess it's going to be that Tinkerbell movie. She's hooked on fairies and princesses already, anyway, so no additional harm done, I hope. ;-) I'd love to see that 'Wreck-It Ralph' picture but I guess she's a bit too young for that. Hmm, if I long for old harridans I might turn to my Gosford Park DVD. But for now, it's Darts from Alexandra palace; DH wants to see Phil Taylor. Ah well...

Have you seen her in 'My House in Umbria'?

A friend lent my her copy telling me that the fashions were wonderful. My husband 'Hmmmphed' at the mere thought of watching it so I set it aside for a time when I could watch it in peace without him complaining about it being a 'girls' film.

I came home one night after being out and he'd obviously had nothing else worth watching so had watched 'My House..'. He told me about this wonderful old sports car in 'that flick your firend lent you'. He was right it is a wonderful car but it's a wonderful flick for other reasons as well. I've since heard him talling his old car cronies that they should watch the film. These old car fanatics will even tolerate a chickflick if it has a wonderful piece of old automobilia in it.
