Drapery and curtain rod problem

Is there a way to reenforce rods so they will not sag in the center? I cannot use a center brace. I have a double window 6 1/2 feet wide with a transom above. It is all in one, without any wood between the top of the window and the bottom of the transom. I would like to hang something on the window area only and leave the transom bare. The windows are vinyl and metal where a brace would normally go. I thought if the rod could somehow be reenfored and made stiff, my problem would be solved. Any suggestions? Pat

A round wood rod or hollow steel rod 1" in diameter or larger should be able to span that distance. If it sags, you might try supporting the center with monofilament attached to the wall above the transom or to the ceiling?

I have done window treatments for folks who have their heart set on a specific curtain rod without a center span support. Fortunately, the rod was hollow, and I put a piece of wooden dowel down the inside of that hollow metal rod to help support the whole thing. Worked pretty nicely too. Word of caution though, over time the rod will likely begin to sag and you would need to replace either the wood dowel or both the wood and the rod. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

The lighter the curtain the more chance you have of it not sagging, the rod may have to be reinforced Liz

I have been trying to figure out a way to reenforce the rod. I would like to use the 2 1/2" wide rod. Would settle for narrow rod if necessary. I just want some color over the blinds. Pat
