Elna lock pro 5 DC - Questions

I bought this overlocker/serger 2nd hand some time ago (4-5 years) it has been going okay until recently when the loopers have have taken to playing up randomly.

It was serviced about mid last year sometime, when the problem started I really cleaned out the nooks and crannies, oiled it, changed needle, and fiddled a little with the tensions, I didn't think it was a tension problem as when it was behaving the stitches were perfect, it would randomly throw loose loops, skip stitches, or one of the loops would break.

Are there any known problems with this model, or have I ended up with a previously poorly looked after one?

When was the last time the knives were changed? Knives are the thing that causes the biggest problem on a serger. Dull knives tend to deflect the material causing skipped stitches, broken or malformed loops etc. To test the knives take a single strand of thread and lay it across the lower knife, turn the machine over by hand in the correct (operating) direction and observe the thread, if it cuts clean they are ok. If the thread is pushed towards you it is time to change the knives.,

Ron - That is a good thing to know! I'll be testing both my sergers today and your post is going into my "Keep" folder - Thanks!

I changed the top knife recently, the bottom knife is fixed and should rarely need changing, according to the manuel.

Tested and all okay.
