Elna SU 62C

Hi folks. I'm new to this group - it seems like a good & active place ( unlike so much of usenet, these days ) I found an Elna SU 62C at a Thrift Shop and after a quick review of the booklets - and a quick test-drive, using the 6 built-in stitches (not the fancy cam-controlled stitches yet) .. it seems OK. I plan to give it a cleaning & oiling before any serious use. Any tips & tricks or things to look-out-for on this machine ? I bought it as a second machine, for my wife ; and/or a first machine for one of my daughters. It needs a light bulb - hard to find ? What is the likely age of this machine ? (early 1970 s ?) Also, if anyone has any links to useful web sites - much appreciated. Thanks. John T.

Should be fairly standard.

Take a look at the POWER CORD. If it's the 466 600 type (right angled, and the number is easy to see), be aware that these are no longer made by Janome, who own the Elna brand name. There are some third party ones available in the USA. This power cord is somewhat prone to failure where the plug connects to the cable. It's a molded on plug and not fixable.

A good group to belong to is the Yahoo group, elnaheirloomsewingmachines.

On this page you can see some of the history of Elna machines. There's a table of dates: compare your serial number with the list to find an approximate date.

I have three Elna Lotus machines. Swiss built Elna's (pre 1995) are some of the best built sewing machines in the world.

Thanks for the reply - I will check out the YahooGroup (if I can remember my login from long ago) 446 600 cord - and I can see why it might fail. Regards ; John T.
