enlarging pattern

I need to add an inch to my favorite pants/shorts pattern (dammit)

They have no side seam. Should I add it all in the back, where the stitching tends to pull (dammit again)?? Or split it up on the center front and center back?

Where have you grown?? You need to add space where it is needed. If you have gotten wider, you may need to split the pattern on the sides and add more in there. On the other hand, if you have increased in the tum, you need to add there (don't forget the crotch extension) and if the increase is behind you, that is where you need more room.

Well, Olwyn Mary........it is the hip measurement, and they pull in back........The rise fits perfectly so I would rather not disturb that..........maybe better slash at what would be the side seam and spread,,,,,,,,,if I understand correctly..........

Sew News has an article on fitting pants in the last 2 issues. If you can get a look at that it may give you some help. Juno

Try unpicking the center back seam and pinning or stitching in a triangle of fabric to see if that corrects the fit.

Neither. If the crotch curve is ok, I'd split it on the front and back grainlines and add there. You'll have to redraw a dart in front, if it has one.

Tends to work for + or - about 4 inches.
