Fabric at Walmart

I heard some great news today in the Fabric Department of my local Walmart--they are going to leave that fabric department open. I was told by the person who runs that department (who was also my sewing teacher) that the bigwigs got so many complaints that they decided to leave the fabric departments open in those stores that have them, but new stores will not have a fabric department.

THANKS BE TO GOD!

That is great news, Jon. Where are you located and did they mean all stores or a select few, do you know? Emily

Hello All:

I live in Glenville, NY near Schenectady, NY. This Walmart is a superstore and will keep the fabric Dept. Open. I was one of the people that sent an email and complained. I didn't think it would make a difference. Somebody was listening. My theory is if you walk into the Walmart Superstore which has grocerys and every other thing imaginable, you are bound to buy something else. Milk, Coffee, something for supper etc. How many times have your went to the "store" to get one or two items and walke out with 10 or 12? Ya see what I mean Jelly=Bean?

I am in Tempe, AZ. I don't know what exactly was meant, but it seemed to me that those stores currently with fabric would continue--I would guess that means nationally.

That is what I was told over the weekend, the Wal-Marts that have a fabric dept. will keep it, for now anyway, but no new stores will carry any. I was in one of the newer stores recently in the Dallas area and saw no fabric dept at all; maybe I just didn't look in the right place, but DN and I walked all over that store, I thought. Here in Houston, we have Jo-Ann's, some Hancock's left, and most of the sewing machine dealers sell fabric, too. Then we have the big store downtown. I really feel for those folks who live in rural areas, with so few choices of any shopping without traveling many miles.. Emily

Elizabeth City, NC is one of there newest Super Centers and when they opened we were all suprised by the lack of material. They did do away with the fabrics dept. and closed the old store. So know we have no fabric places at all around here. Closest ones are Tidewater area in VA. It really is sad that the lack of retail fabrics. There used to be at least 7 main chains up there and know there down to 2.

Be glad you still have an older wal-mart store.
