Fabric from H*ll!

I bid on, and won, a beautiful fabric offered on eBay. It's a lightweight lycra, gorgeous paisley print, wonderful colors. I just started working with it this week, and it's strange. I first noticed a mark, sort of a thin dent, tried to iron it out, unsuccessfully. As I'm working with it I notice more marks that I hadn't noticed before. Hmm, strange. I'm making a blouse and just finished putting a zipper in, more marks. Then I'm wondering if they are snags, but snags actually show a run of thread. As I run my fingers over the fabric, I see the marks appear. They are snags, from my skin. Well, I don't have baby-soft skin, but this is ridiculous. These marks aren't really runs, but they appear as a thin ridge on one side and a dent on the other side. There is still a lot of work to go on this blouse, but I'm thinking of just chucking the whole thing. If it's this fragile, I probably won't be happy with it. Has anyone ever experienced this sort of problem with a fabric? Cheryl

Yes, usually silk satin. Best thing to do before handling such stuff is to scrub ones' hands with a mix of a couple of teaspoons of caster sugar or table salt and some cooking oil! Then wash that off carefully... Skin will be left smooth and snag free, and beautifully moisturised.

BUT be aware that this fabric may pill horribly in normal wear and in washing.

Hi Cheryl, Yes, I've had that happen with a fabric before- stretch chiffon. Like you say, it presented as a blip on one side of the fabric and a dent on the other. It was equally mysterious to me too! And like you said, it turned out to be my sad skin causing the snags. Sorry it happened, because your Ebay find sounds so pretty.
