Fabric: grey with red, blue, and green cars

Hello everyone,

I hope I'm not posting this to the wrong group. My apologies if I am. Also, the first time I posted this, I attached a photo of the fabric but my post didn't go through. So now I'm reposting this with a link. Hopefully this won't end up with a double-post.

We bought a receiving blanket a few years ago for our new son. He loves it ... so much so that it's now getting quite worn out. We were hoping we could find another one like it or the material that it was made out of.

It's a light grey blanket with little green, red, and blue cars. It also has the words "Honk honk" and "Beep beep" on it. You can find a photo of it here:

If anyone could tell me where we could find this material, we (and a certain little boy) would be extremely grateful!

Thanks in advance!

James

I have no idea where you might find the same fabric, but I saw something similar either on www,fabric.com or on www.e-quilter, which is an excellent site for flannels and I'm sure they will help you locate something similar if they don't have it. Emily

This is not a binary newsgroup, so images would be rejected. Posting the link was fine.

I doubt you'll find retail yardage with an identical print. However, having had two daughters who became VERY attached to their "blankies" I have some experience: First blanket was a custom-woven wool blanket with silk binding, difficult to launder and irreplaceable. Her distress when I tried to take it away was terrible, so I finally cut it into four smaller pieces, re-bound it and she cuddled with the pieces. At least that way I could launder one and still have another she could use to get to sleep. I learned that important lesson from first daughter, and as soon as second daughter showed a special interest in a purchased blanket, I immediately bought four more. They lasted through her childhood, and I still have one brand new one for her if she ever has a child.

I did search "flannel yardage with car print"

Another hint: If you do make a new blanket for him with a non-identical print, be sure to let him know it's his "Big Boy" blanket! Keep the older one around for awhile, until he voluntarily gives it up. Make SEVERAL of the new blanket. ;-)

It's a long-shot - but if you emailed your photo to some fabric chains .. ? you never know ... Here's a link to one of our local chains - They might have something close.

Your best bet would be a mill end store if the manufacturer of the blanket had leftover fabric and sold it off. Iffy at best. You could look for a local silkscreening person/company and commission a few yards of copy, but you might find that very expensive. You could get someone with a home embroidery machine to digitize the designs and stitch them out on a plain fabric, also likely to be costly. Or you could enlist the young man to look at some of the sites you've been given and to select a new, as Beverly said, "big boy" design for new blankets, at least three of them. One to use, one in the wash, and one for disaster.
