fake fur stuck in up down mechanism

Posted this to the alt textiles by mistake, when I was looking for the $100 is too much to spend on a machine thread, sorry

You have all been so helpful about the weak machine I wonder if you can help me with trying to fix my singer.

I had 3 party bags to go (fake fur, monster bags) and for some stupid reason I flipped the fur on the left hand side of the foot up and it got caught in the rod that goes up and down and lifts the needle. It jammed and won't move. I pulled out what I could of the fur, and even tried burning it out , thinking that nylon would burn quickly but nothing happened. (It's a good solid metal machine)

I took the casing off the side but can't get any further, there is nothing left to unscrew that looks obvious.

Is this a job for the experts or is there something else I can try? Turning the handle does nothing and I don't want to burn the motor out.

Cheers Lisa

I think I'd need to see pix before I could diagnose anything or suggest further treatment.

Are you sure the fur isn't caught in the feed dogs?

I have been trying to visualize this problem as well, and failing here...

Sounds to me as if the fur was caught in the needle bar somehow, but I could be somewhat confused here. She had the fur pushed up against the needle bar, and moved the needle and caught the nap of the fur in the needle bar??

Suggestion: This may be a job for the wefixit group on yahoo...

Any chance you could use the seam ripper to cut away some of the fur? HTH Barbara in SC
