two things: yes, you are cute ;)

and, now i want a rub board. thanks a lot! being one of those poor northeasterners, i'd never heard of a rub board (obviously haven't read all my zydeco cd liner notes...). looks like something the kid would like too. so, how many instruments do you play? lee

There's several sources online. I'd try Larry Miller, the man who built my accordion, but I don't have a URL for him offhand.

Well, you called it by the right name, for the genre anyway. They can sound awful by themselves though. Ever heard a 5 minute tamborine solo? You get the idea.

I'm very good on rubboard. I'm sort of advanced beginner, low intermediate on accordion, and fiddle needs a lot of work. I can whack some chords on a guitar, and not many, and that's about it.

i found Key of Z rub boards & RU washboards (too complicated, but i like his metal tip gloves). i'll keep searching.

well, yeah... i bought the kid a tambour (cross between a tambourine & a bohran) when he was 11 months old, along with a bamboo shaker stick... he got drumsticks & a practice pad at 4 & a guitar last year at 5... his favorite place to play the tambour is in the car on long trips...

i have a high tolerance for noise :)

i started fiddle in 6th grade, but a fretless instument & a bit of tone deafness are a bad combination. i noodle around on a steel guitar & 5 string banjo (my grandma has a nice 5 string i hope to inherit someday. she's 101). i'm pretty decent on claranet & i finger pick guitar. i never learned how to play chords. lee

Key of Z is too expensive. RU is not the real zydeco deal.

Here's Larry's site:

Its a daunting instrument. I started at 50 years old or thereabouts. And my ear did develop, though its very far from excellent. I'm surprised I can do ANYTHING with it.

I just don't seem to have the dexterity to pick. That's why fiddle sort of jumped out at me. Different approach. There's fiddlers in my ancestry too. Maybe I inherited something. Like a high tolerance for cat torture sounds.
