Finished bathing suit coverups

I just finished the 3rd of the bathing suit cover ups for 3 of my granddaughters. Overall I'm happy with them. The one I made for the 2 yr old is my least favorite. I didn't get enough gathers in the skirt. I used Tee shirt patterns and added a skirt. I bound the necklines and armholes with foldover elastic. I put that on with a bias binding foot. The bottom of the skirts I finished with a lettuce stitch on the serger, using a bright pink woolly nylon in the loopers. If my daughter takes pictures with her digital I'll post pictures, no guarantees on that though. As a result of making these I decided to order a gathering foot from the dealer I got the serger from. I hate gathering. I find it far more difficult than it should be. Juno

The oldest of the three has a long list of things she wants made. Please Gram make me a skirt down to here, pointing to her mid calf, and you make me a coat, No I can't, can't make one for myself so that's out sweetheart. I'd really like a headband to match my skirt. Goes through my stash and asks for a blue sweater and a rose color one. What else do you have Gram, she asks. I told her a long list for myself and she laughed and said, you know you'll make things for me first because you love me so much. Bit of a manipulator I'd say!!Also knows all the right buttons to push.6 1/2 going on 25. Juno

That is typical of DGC, Juno, and you know 90% of the time, they get their way, don't they? At least, mine do. When I told my 7YO DGD I would make her a sundress, she asked if I would make her best friend one, too, so they could be twins. They are about the same size, height, etc. as well as the same age. Of course, I said I would; I just hope her parents, whom I don't know, will not be too upset when they see the results. Emily

What a good grandma you are! I suspect the friend's parents will be very appreciative.

I agree Doreen. I think the child's parents will be thrilled that you took the time to make something for her as well. I can remember children, who were friends of my children, saying that they wished their mom's could sew and make things for them. I also remember making quick quilts for friends of my daughters when they were in college. My girls all wanted quilts made from sheets. I Probably did a dozen of them for their friends. They were just sheets sewn together with batting and then tied with yarn instead of being quilted. Juno

I also remember making quick

Juno, I did the same thing for my youngest DD and her roommate. They picked out patterned sheets they liked, and we bought four extra of the flat sheets and extra thick batting to make a couple of reversible coverlets. DD said it was so easy to make up their beds...in a hurry, they could just smooth the coverlets over and things looked neat.

This was in the days before 'bed in a bag' became popular. I guess those ensembles may be more economical now.
