flowers from lace material

I have tried to cut around one of the flowers on lace material.

Is there a way to leave a neat edge where I cut, instead of pointing bits of embroidery. Hope it makes sense.

What I want to do is instead of just sewing on a piece of the lace material on to the main fabric of a bodice. I want to scallop the lower edge by cutting away some of the netting (that holds the lace flowers together).

Thanks Katherine

Sure. What you want to do is cut close to the satin stitches that form the edge of the flower motif. You can cut all the way up to, but not through, the edge of each flower. If you cut the satin stitches, the stitches will fray off. Then when you sew it onto the bodice, use a short, zig zag stitch or satin stitch if your machine will do a nice one, in matching thread. If you match your stitches to the satin stitching at the edge of the flowers, no one will ever know they are there.

Does that make sense?

Thank you Sharon, might try that, although it is a long dress therefore a bit bulky to sew.
