Frister + Rossman 904

Dear All,

Have kindly been donated a Frister + Rossman 904 (with manual!) by a good friend who wanted it to have a good home.

I googled on

frister rossman 904

but could find no obvious basic info, such as the sort Kate has kindly given about the Bernina 1008.

Is it as good a basic machine as the Bernina 1008?

I need to get up the courage to practice on a few scraps but would like to know before I start!

It isn't as tough. That Bernina is built for abuse by school kids, and high volume for domestic sewists and dressmakers and the like. No F&R will do that. But it should be a good domestic machine that will see a standard domestic user through many years. I wore out my F&R doing semi-professional amounts of work on it and it was a light weight domestic machine! My fault - nothing to do with the machine! And it took me 12 years, so you should be OK! :)

Take a look through the manual at cleaning and lubrication: take out and clean everything possible, and oil/grease where it tells you to. Then just thread up and sew. Foot down gently to start with, and try all the stitches. Test foot pressure adjustment and thread tension... Any faults, stop immediately and make a note! And let us know how you get on.
