Well, afternoon, really!
My pal Julie, the one who gave me her Featherweight and to whom I gave the Lotus Stella Air Electronic, is fighting her way back into sewing! It does seem a bit of a struggle at times... She was having a little problem, and I told her to bring the machine and the problems and come on over. So she did, yesterday afternoon.
We sorted out the zip on her fleece jacket: got the pockets and the zip sewn in, so she can now just finish it off (I hope!). We cut her T shirt (lovely flower print cotton Lycra mix knit), and neatened the edges of her trousers on the serger. She hasn't quite gathered the courage to use the Toyota serger she bought from me the other week... ;) I'm hoping the books I loaned her will help her sew the T on the serger, but if she doesn't quite dare, she can bring it back next time and we'll work on it.
I'm going to get her to pack it, herself, and friend Diane from across the road with the Toyota serger she bought on my advice on ebay all in the car and come on over for another teaching session. We'll set up the cutting table top on its own legs as a sturdy sewing machine table and get serging for the day! I know Diane wants to make her hubby a new fleece for the winter, and I have masses in the loft that will be great for a learning garment.
We'll have lessons in how to neaten edges, doing rolled hems, flatlocking, and all the other fun stuff I can think of. They'll go home with a book of samples and a lot more confidence! I'll also get them swapping round the machines so they can each use all the others on the bench and know that they can do this and that there are ways round not having differential feed for some things, and how to compensate in others, as just sometimes I find I get better results compensating than using the diff! Funny ole world, innit...
Today I have cotton dresses to cut and make up. I also have some silk wedding stuff to do for Monday. Oh, and a shawl to bead... :)
