Fun with scraps

I had largish scraps left over from the black Polartec fleece cape I made for my DS, so I decided to surprise her with a matching hat. I used Vogue 8704

I had to piece scraps for the largest pattern piece, so I made some additional diagonal "seams" with the serger and made it a 'design feature'. And I added lining (by hand) to the crown instead of leaving that seam showing.

DS is coming over tomorrow for dinner and a movie, and to pick up her new ensemble. I'll try to get pics up, but rebuilding my web site is going sssllloooowwwwllllyyyy...

Oh, that's a great idea! I'm sure she will appreciate your effort and the hat will look great on her. If I remember correctly, she has a slim face, similar to yours, so that will be just the right shape.

And although I'm curious for pics, I know about slow; I need to install some piece of hardware to the computer download my pics from the camera onto it but I just don't get round to it. Anyway, at least you have been able to save all the contents from your old site, so it's not like a major crash with total data loss.

Nice pattern, could it be reversible I wonder?.

Yes, her face (and body) are slim. I expect it just to become a "Brrrrr it's cold out" hat, though.

I was not able to make a complete backup of my site before the host shut down, so I will pretty much have to build it all over again. I have all the pictures, but none of the text.

Probably. For view C and D, the band is a single layer, with a raw edge at the bottom, but you might get away with cutting two, adding seam allowances and cutting the trim "tail" on D separately.

For view B the band is double wide, sewn at CB and turned to sew to the crown piece, but I suppose you could cut it where the fold would be, add seam allowances and cut contrasting fabric to make it reversible. The "flowers" on that one are attached with buttons, so it would be easy to add and subtract colors there.

I found the band was a bit wide, so I reduced it about 3/4 inch.

I like the idea of the trim on a button for the reversibility, I might use a snap. I particularly like the shape of the hat , simple but slightly shaped. Thank you for that Beverly.

I thought about using Velcro or snaps as well, then decided that pretty button were more intentional-design-like in case she decided she did not want to use the 'flowers' at all.

You're welcome, Claire, good luck.

Of course you would, Beverly, and in that you're no different from any of the other women in this group. But you'll have to stand in line, sweety. :-)
