Thanks, Ron. Better to ask than mess something up. My

221 did not come with a ruffler but the other two did and I have used the one on the 15 several times.

Jean, I use the ruffler from my older Singer on the Pfaff machine that doesn't have the IDF, and on a White machine, cloned to J C Penney's brand. Emily

It is a basic low shank ruffler, in fact any low shank feet will work on the

221, 15, 66. 99 etc. Matters not the brand

'Cept for my Singer fit generic walking foot! That fits almost all my other machines, but won't fit the FW. No worries, though: I just use the Husqvarna one on the FW!

A walking foot feeds the fabric from the top while the feed dog feeds the fabric from the bottom.

A ruffler makes tiny tucks as you sew.

There should be an attachment for your machine, either from Janome or a generic one.

They are two different things! :) The ruffler a special foot that puts a tuck in the fabric as you sew it. You can see mine at work on the What The Dickens project on my web site: scroll down to Day 10 (a long way - there are LOADS of pix on this project!) and you can see it both at work on the machine, and the effect it has. You can only use it on light weight fabrics.

The walking or even feed foot is another big clunky one that gives you feed dogs on top of the fabric as well as under it, and helps the fabric layers move through without the foot squooshing the top layers out of place. It's great for anything with pile (like velvet and polar fleece), keeping checks lined up on suits, and other stuff: on straight line quilting it helps to stop layer creep and tucks and distortions. :)

I have one of each for my basic, mechanical Janome. I bought them both from my local OSMG (that's old sewing machine guy)

Olwyn Mary n New Orleans.
