How big a girl? Most misses' patterns come in sizes down to a 6, which is about a girl's 12.

Dusters aren't very fitted, so once you get the shoulder size right, a misses' pattern should work fine. (You may need to shorten the sleeves and the body, though.)

To alter an existing pattern, find a jacket that has the neckline and shoulder line you want, and simply lengthen the body to the desired length. Another option would be to find a simple button front dress pattern, make it a skosh bigger and leave off the buttons....

Most dusters are no more than long collarless jackets with no yoke or seam detail on the body.

Simplicity 5486 has a duster pattern.

If you mean something more like a Drover's coat, Folkwear has a child sized pattern

Misses' Cardigan may work:

#3037 or #2825 or #2925

Burda #3077 looks nice in a long too (bit complex in pattern though).

My daughter is 7 yrs old, tall and thin. I saw the Simplicity pattern but it starts at size 8 and I'm thinking she would be more of a size 6. I make go thru my patterns and go for a jacket or dress pattern, haden't thought of that, thanks.
