Grommet valances

I've got a pair of drapes made out of some sort of silky, satiny material. I will be making valances for 4 windows. I will make them double the width of the windows and need some input, please.

If any of you were making these would you use some sort of fusible interfacing in the top portion where the grommets will be placed? I'm thinking a bit of mid-weight interfacing will make this portion threaded through the rod 'stand up' and not slump. The grommets will be about 4 or 5 inches apart and inside diameter will be 1 inch.

Your plan makes sense but just for you, I inspected the grommeted curtains here. I bought some to cover the shelves where my fabric stash sits protected from Mr. Sunshine. All the factory did was turn under a hem about

4" deep. No interfacing. The fabric is rather sturdy, though. Much like a light-weight denim. Your challenge, I think, will be applying the grommets so I'd use as thin an interfacing as reasonable. Do report back. FWIW, the grommets on the curtains look and function very well. Polly

Joan, I've done more curtains and drapes then I can count. Shower curtains from sheets with grommets among them. Before fusible interface was easy to get, I used fabric that I had folded over to the size of my header, now I use an interfacing that gives stability but not stiffness. if you have an extra piece try a light weight interfacing. I wouldn't go with anything to stiff. Juno

Polly and Juno thank you both! I was originally thinking very very stiff fusible interfacing then thought the mid-weight would be better but I'll go for the light weight stuff. Much appreciated!
