Haberman's or Field's?

This should really go in the alt.sewing.michigan thread.

A buddy from Ann Arbor, now in West Lafayette, Ind., asked for an acquaintance who is wondering whether to head to Kalamazoo or Royal Oak for a pending road trip..

"She's looking for good quality fabrics - probably fine wools and silks. She hates the current fashions and is intending to make some clothes, but doesn't want polyester. She's quite the seamstress." (So is my buddy, but she hasn't been to either place.)

It's been years since I went to H's, and I never could afford it when I lived nearby. Now I'm in Grand Rapids, where there's a F's in every quadrant of the city, plus a couple more a half hour away.

Anyone been to both, besides Joy (I'm guessing)? Which would you steer her to?

Yep, I mentioned the upcoming sewing expo in Novi, said that H's is likely to be there. Dunno if Field's goes.

Thanks!

I've never been to Haberman's, so maybe I'm the wrong person to answer this, but I love Field's Fabrics in Kalamazoo! I'm not really sure what they have in silks or wools, since that wasn't really what I was looking for the few times I was there. The one time (several years ago) that I went to the Expo in Novi, Haberman's was there but I don't think Field's was.

As I might have previously typed, one of my dancer buddies is an owner of Field's. (I kid him about being "the perfect man": HE OWNS A FABRIC STORE!!!)

Ahem.

He sent this message:

"Thank you for your inquiry. Regretfully, we will not be present at the American Sewing Expo. We have our own fabric and sewing "Expo" going year round and it's about all we can handle!

Thank you for your kind concern."
