Has anyone tried recovering vertial blinds?

Hi;

My sister has some vertical blinds that have been bleached by the sun over the last 10 years or so. They are Hunter Douglas blinds and she was wondering if she could put some fabric over them; the question is, how do you keep the edges of the fabric from fraying. I know that there are some fabric sealers out there, but would they work in this application. It's not like she will be washing them, so do you think that the edges would need sealing?

I suggested painting them, but she had never heard of that. I think just a good primer sealer, then a latex paint over that would do the trick.

Any other suggestions?

Linda

My suggestions:

1- rip out the old fabric and glue some new one back on with wallpaper paste, it is clear so it you will see the pattern (if any) and it will keep your edges from raveling. 2- just cut your material a bit wider then the lat and fold the edges under ( you might need to press them) and then glue them on using what ever glue you have. 3- do you realy need to salvage blinds ? it might be a lot cheaper to replace them 4- collage

Hope this helps

Jean

I've painted many of the cloth kind. They paint very easily with a roller on a flat surface. Get plenty of paint, they soak up more than you think they will.

My sister painted hers and it worked very well. They need to be very clean to start with, obviously - she used washing soda to give them a good scrub. A LOT cheaper than replacing them - hers were hundreds of quid (pounds to our American sisters).
