Yeah, it would be really nice if I had those options, but I don't. In the meantime, I will stick with what has worked for me for the last

I only have one machine but will confess to 3 sets of sewing scissors! I am a real beginner and have gone back to sewing as my 12 year old daughter is of very slight build so it is nearly impossible to find clothes to fit her - they seem to be made for kids more than twice her weight. So, it has been easier to make stuff for her than alter everything we buy.

I have learnt over the last few years that no question is too stupid for this group and I always get really helpful replies. The knowledge in this group is amazing.

Welcome and enjoy.

Where else could one find a whole group of experts, friendly helpful ones, who not only answer questions but are eager to help? I'm glad I found this place.

Thanks, I think I will.

Greetings Peggy, and allow me to introduce myself. I'm the group moderator for alt.sewing. You can surely belong to this group even if you don't own any sewing machines, for that is not a requirement. There is an application process, however, which you can begin by emailing me at the address below with the words "subscribe alt.sewing" in the subject line, all lowercase. Upon receiving your email, I will then email a reply to you, describing the next stage in the application process. Meanwhile, welcome to the group, Peggy, and we all look forward to becoming better acquainted with you during your membership here with us. :-)

Hi Peggy,

RedDog is one of our resident trolls. Kate has some good recipes for trolls.

This group is UNmoderated, there is no moderator and you do NOT need to send an email to anyone to join, particularly not RedDog.

Whack the troll with a sleeve roll until it falls down. Use some fabric scraps to anchor it to the treadle irons. Sit back and enjoy a nice cup of Black Dragon Oolong and a chocolate chip cookie. It can have the crumbs...

Mercifully, RedDog is mostly filtered out by eternal.september.org (I did not see this instance). I remember being caught off guard the first few times it posted, however. Ugh, what a sicko.

Also, OP should be aware that RD morphs. If you see a "go look at my (fill in the blank)" with a tinyURL even if

*appears* to be from a regular on the group, you may receive a nasty surprise. Check the headers to see if it actually came from the real poster.

Thanks to everyone for the tip about RedDog. There's a joker in every deck, isn't there?
