Hiya everyone!
I'm still in the "getting to know you" stages with my sewing machine, and only a newbie lurker here, but I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out with a hand-sewing problem (all of my sewing mentors are a thousand miles away and I couldn't find any how-to's online!)...
I bought a fantastic and very heavy vintage wool coat from a charity shop, but I don't like the buttons on it so I've bought some nice wooden toggles to put on instead. Only when I got them home I realised I haven't the foggiest idea how to attach them to the coat! I know they need some sort of shank which then goes around the toggle itself, but how do I create this without it unravelling or the toggle simply sliding out of its loop?
All the coats I've examined in stores use cord that's machine-braided for the shank and attached with leather panels to the coat, but surely there's a way I can do this by hand...?
thanks very much! melissa
