HELP! Please with serging rolled hem

I'm trying to make a princess costume for my 5 year old, needs tomorrow. Pretty much worked all night (I'm NOT an experienced sewer!). I'm trying to do a rolled edge hem with my serger on the chiffon sleeves. I've set everything on my machine for light woven, but it looks awful, and the material keeps getting "stuck" under the foot. I thought this would be the best way to do the hem of the sleeve so that it looks nice, but not so far. Any help appreciated (I have a Huskylock 936 if that helps). Thanks, Jamie

It sounds like the stitches are crowding up too much on the horizontal needle in the stitch plate. I had this happen occasionally with very fine fabrics. But also check that the needle isn't loose and hasn't shifted to the back of the machine, narrowing the gap too much for the stitches to slide off as you sew... I had that happen! HV replaced the stitch plate.

If all is OK with the machine, try the following:

Hold the fabric a leeetle bit taut with both hand on the fabric, one at the back and one at the front. Also, you may need to lengthen the stitch a tad and widen the cutting width just a smidge... Make sure you have the right type and size of needle in the machine, and have set it properly for the two thread rolled hem if that is what you are using. You didn't say exactly what was wrong with the stitch, so mine is just a guess... I had a 910 for several years, and it always made a fantastic rolled hem.

I just finished up classes on my 936, and one of the things we did with the rolled hem is to make sure we are cutting material, even if it's a little bit, as we go. This helps keep the material from getting stuck.
