Help requested with jumpsuit

My granddaughter wants a jumpsuit (like a leotard with legs). I have some stretchy velvet material but have been unable to find a pattern. I have bought Simplicity 5944 which includes a leotard and a pair of trousers with the idea that I might combine the two at the waist to make the jumpsuit. The trousers are supposed to be for knits only and have an elasticated waist, and the leotard is for stretch knits. Can anyone tell me whether they think this would work. I am reasonably competent with the sewing machine, but not used to adapting patterns very much.

Thanks. However, I forgot to mention she is only 7 so this would be too big, even if I could get it. Unfortunately my shop only sells Simplicity, Mcalls and Style, and I really want to make it before Xmas. I should have mentioned I am in the UK.

There's probably a pattern for slim-fit pants in the Big Three catalogs. Try under costumes, as well, since IIRC they have a couple of skating outfit pattens. Your scheme to combine patterns should work. If you make it in two pieces you could possibly let it out a bit when she grows. Or make it as a unitard, and the first few times she wrestles with it in the bathroom she'll decide to wear something else! HTH
