Help! What are "princess seams"?

Help! I've got a pattern that calls for "princess seams" in several places... How would these differ from standard flat, felled, or french seams? What's the best/easiest way to create them? Thank you,

Princess seams are when the seams are on the front of the dress and are curved, close to the bust. You sew them just like the pattern directions says., just like any other seam. They are curved and I would pin it before I sew. Also, after you sew the seam, you will need to clip into the seam, just like you clip sleeve cap seams. Just read the directions. "Princess" describes the placement of the seams, not the finish. Princess seams are vertical seams that serve to contour the bodice of the garment, shaping it to the wearer's torso.

Princess seams are just regular seams, however you do them, but in specific places. Princess seams run from the front waist of a bodice to either the armhole or the shoulder. They incorporate the bust dart. The bodice back may have princess seams to match, or it may be seamless.

Simplcity 5189 is a dress with princess seams. To see it, go to

formatting link
In the box at the top, to the right of the red Simplicity, click Design Search. Enter 5189 in the search box. If you click on Front and Back View inthe pop-up box that appears, you'll see a drawing of the dress. You can clearly see the princess seams.

I like princess seams: they give a flattering vertical line and they're easy to fit. If you do the ones that end at the armhole you'll need to do lots of clipping to make them lie flat round the curve.
