Help with Blazer shoulders please

I think I am about half done my pinstripe blazer! Hooray!

I just put the sleeves in but it doesn't seem "crisp" enough around the shoulder area, what can I put in there to make it better? (please don't say shoulder pads.....I hate them! I am not a linebacker! I like feminine shoulders, and whenever I try on something with shoulder pads I feel like I am five years old again and trying on my mothers clothes.)

I do remember seeing an article about constructing blazers/jackets like Armani (?) or somebody does it, but I can't find it now.

TIA

just a thought, but you might add a narrow strip (an inch or less wide) of stiff interfacing along the shoulder seam... 3 or 4 four inches on either side of the shoulder seam ought to do it... just stitch it on over your original seam line.

You WILL need shoulder pads! Blazers are cut for pads. Also, a bit of Domette in the armscye seam round the sleeve head. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes. Remember that the pads are sewn in very lightly, and that they go to the edge of the fabric, not the seam line.

The Armani jackets are cut not to have shoulder pads: if this pattern says shoulder pads, then it's cut for them and it is best to use them.

The only think I would add is, cover them with a matching lining fabric, unless your jacket pattern is lined. IIRC, your pattern was fairly tailored, and probably did call for a lining.

Yes, it was! I understand why I need shoulder pads, the sleeves are hanging funny.
