Help with Flower Girl Dress

Hello,

I'm making a flower girl dress using McCall's pattern number M4763 (link below) in view "A". The dress will be made out of satin. The pattern calls for a full lining but the envelope does not recommend what lining fabric to use. Any recommendations? I can order the Ambiance or Hang Loose linings. How about a cotton lining? The dress will be worn for a New Year's Eve wedding. The child's mother said she would not be wearing a slip or an undershirt with the dress. I'm pretty sure the child (age 9) will be freezing, cotton might be warmer. There is no mention on the pattern about interfacings. Do you think I should interface the bodice? If so, fusible or woven interfacing? I'm open to any suggestions?

Thanks for your help. Liz W.

I lined my silk satin wedding dress bodice with cotton lawn, and the skirt with an anti-static poly so it didn't cling. You could nount the bodice on an interlining for warmth. My advice would be to use a fully washable sew-in. Vilene/Pellon do a slimline thermal one.

Nope - never been a problem for me! I just baste the fashion fabric and interlining together round the edge inside the seam allowance and treat the two as one. With very fine fabrics any interlining helps hide the zipper.

Hi

I would have thought that a satin lining would be best with regard to 'hang' of dress, especially as you are using satin for the main fabric. An interfacing, or at least tape, around arms and neckline would be recommended and if the garment is to be worn at a wedding then warmth isn't really a criteria I would take into account. It is always so hot at these functions. Jane
