Help with mitering (?) Newbie with many questions!

I am trying to make a table runner. It is triangular at the ends. How do I put the borders on to make it look correct? It has an inner & outer border. The instructions just say to miter, and when I look that up in my sewing books, it is showing how to do it for a square corner, but not something that's not at a 90 degree angle, but at a 135 degree angle? Hope this makes sense! I don't know why I didn't just choose a square table runner for my first time! Thanks, Jamie

I don't know if I can share the project, or I would send it. It was from the Husqvarna site a couple of years ago, and I've just gotten brave enough to try it. The instructions are not very clear for the borders either. it just says to cut 3" strips for your border fabric and sew them together, but doesn't tell you how long to make the entire strip. So any thoughts on that would be helpful too. I realize it has to go all the way around, but don't know how much to add on for mitering, etc.

Just done some table runners myself with borders added to pointed ends. I hope I can describe it properly, I was working with a 1cm seam allowance. What I did was add on the long side borders stopping my sewing just 1 cm from each end so that 1cm was not sewn at either end. You must make sure to leave plenty of extra border fabric still hanging at either end, I think that I left about twice the width of the border in length.. Then I pressed open the seams, and added the two pieces that would be the border for one pointed end ( left and right if you want to think of them that way), again leave plenty of extra allowance at either end. When I sewed /attached these pieces I went up to the 1 cm that I hadn't attached on the long straight and didn't sew the last 1cm at the point . Then I hand pressed the mitered seams I had three at each end of the table runner, of course you have excess fabric at this stage but I folded and fiddled a bit untill the angles looked right to me, and then I pressed them with an iron from the right side, flipped them over and pinned them in place, the iron crease gave me a sewing line . Then I was able to sew them together and after checking they had worked out which mine did clipped away the excess to a normal seam allowance before pressing the seam allowance open. I hope I have made that understandable it's not easy to describe without pictures
